044 - Buffets

Welcome!

Welcome to thirty-two eleven (”3211”). This newsletter will entail: 3 Reads, 2 Rabbit Holes, 1 Watch, and 1 Listen — 3/2/1/1. Detailing what I have been up to, on the internet.

introduction:

Back in action. Bit of a hiatus, happy holidays.

3 reads:

1 - Fascinating read about the economics of buffets. How they make money, how you can take advantage of them, psychological tactics, and more.

2 - Pulled from one of the rabbit holes this week - Slot machines on Army bases. An interesting concept.

3 - Important reminders that pathological cynics always will find a way to complain. Documentation on those who doubted flight and space travel through the years.

2 rabbit holes:

1 - 52 things Tom Whitwell learned in 2023. The Slot Machine read (above) was found through this post.

2 - One of my favorite yearly posts, Tynan’s gear post for 2024. Here he details his onebag setup and explains why each item is essential for his travel. Interesting to see the Rokid Max make the list, they just raised a $112M Series C round to expand metaverse products. I will be monitoring to see where this company goes.

1 watch:

1 - Wild movie I watched last night - Lucy.

1 listen:

1 - Steph Smith, podcast host for Andreessen Horowitz, dives into her “internet goldmines” that she reads to stay up to date on the latest trends in the world. Definitely will be adding these to my list.

Cheers,
