028 - Prairie Oyster

Welcome!

Welcome to thirty-two eleven (”3211”). This newsletter will entail: 3 Reads, 2 Rabbit Holes, 1 Watch, and 1 Listen — 3/2/1/1. Detailing what I have been up to, on the internet.

3 reads:

1 - PJ Tucker is a DAWG on the Philadelphia 76ers. Here are a few of his plays that have made a huge difference sweeping the Brooklyn Nets in the 1st round of NBA playoffs:

What is even crazier is his story of how he came to be a DAWG for the 76ers. From crowds throwing pipe bombs when playing internationally in Israel to winning NBA Championships.

2 - Researchers at Northeastern University taught Parrots how to facetime.

3 - The NFL Draft is tonight at 8 pm EST. A former Navy cryptologist created a metric measuring the "Relative Athletic Score" of players. Anthony Richardson, Florida's QB, did not have an impressive college career stat-wise (Last Season: 53.8% completion percentage, 17 touchdown passes, 9 interceptions, 6-6 record as a starter), but could be picked very early tonight due to Platte’s metric - Richardson is deemed the most athletic quarterback in modern football history.

2 rabbit holes:

1 - This Canadian couple retired and decided to travel the world for the rest of their life. Their website details all metrics of countries visited, their backpacks, technology setup, van life, etc.

2 - My guy Flamm and I were talking about the "prairie oyster" the other day at lunch. A "hangover cure", consisting of:

  1. Egg Yolk

  2. Malt Vinegar

  3. Worcestershire Sauce

  4. Horseradish

  5. Salt

  6. Black Pepper

  7. Sometimes a form of alcohol (i.e. gin, whiskey)

Found in the 1895 book “Drinks of All Kinds For All Seasons” by John Hogg of London. He presents the origin story that a few Texans were out camping when one fell ill and demanded oysters to heal him. They didn’t have oysters, but they had eggs. So they fixed up a drink of it similar to an oyster cocktail, handed it to their friend, and he suddenly got better.

1 watch:

1 - CNBC’s Brian Sullivan interviewing a deepfake version of himself.

1 listen:

1 - Shoutout Ricky for this one - Lex Fridman interviews Paul Rosolie. Paul is basically a real-life Tarzan.

Cheers,
