027 - Shoelaces

Welcome!

Welcome to thirty-two eleven (”3211”). This newsletter will entail: 3 Reads, 2 Rabbit Holes, 1 Watch, and 1 Listen — 3/2/1/1. Detailing what I have been up to, on the internet.

introduction:

Getting my golf game going on the local courses around town. Just ordered 45 neon yellow balls so I never lose one. Hopefully all shots will be in the fairway for easy spotting.

3 reads:

1 - Pumped for season 2 of "100 Foot Wave". The HBO show details the process of big wave surfer Garrett McNamara tackling Nazaré, Portugal's massive waves. He essentially put this surf location on the map for his feat.

2 - Spanish extreme athlete, Beatriz Flamini has emerged from a cave after spending 500 days with no human contact, in what could be a world record.

3 - Ian Fieggen has dedicated his life to being the Shoelace Expert. He has spent the past couple of decades compiling an unexpectedly large amount of information about shoelaces – particularly how to lace them and tie them.

2 rabbit holes:

1 - I have been on the hunt for "business casual" shoes that can be worn in and out of the office and are onebag travel friendly. Through extensive research on reddit, I recently purchased the Groundies Budapests. Super flexible, barefoot style shoes that can dress up or down. Feeling fly on the streets now.

2 - Interesting start-up I found. Started by Yale football player Michael Chime, Class of 2020. He was elected as a Peter Thiel fellow and given a $40,000 financial backing to start Prepared. Prepared is the next level of 911 operating systems. Utilizing live stream video between those on site, 911 operators off site, and first responders in route. They just raised $4mm in a seed round in July 2022. They plan on changing the way we respond to emergencies.

1 watch:

1 - This couple makes live DJ mixes while also cooking dinner in cool settings. Throw them on in the background when working from home sometimes.

1 listen:

1 - Alex Honnold (El Capitan free solo climber) on the Rich Roll podcast.

Cheers,
